Audi Quattro World Cup, reaches a Tenerife climax
October 18, 2008
Playing a few rounds of golf with some work friends has a whole new meaning for competitors in the grand finals of the Audi Quattro World Cup at Abama Golf this weekend. The mammoth competition started with 78,000 amateur players competing in 750 world wide tournaments and reaches its conclusion with more than 100 players from 50 countries converging on the west coast of Tenerife.

One hopeful competitor is Robert Cramsie, a business development manager from the Cambridge area. Robert is partnering Harry Bloomfield from Fulham, they were paired up for the UK regional final at The Belfry and then moved on to win the Audi UK Quattro Cup winners at Dartmoor.
The pair have high hopes but know it will be a tough 4 day event as the cream of the worlds amateurs battle it out to take the glory. What ever the outcome, the experience of playing in the warmth of Tenerife on a top class course will be a memory that stays with them for many years.

Telefonica Movistar tour heads for Las Americas climax
August 29, 2008
Just imagine a golf tournament spread over 5 months and the 8 main golf courses of Tenerife and La Gomera, the idea sounds exciting but the reality has been even better with some top class action for men and women. The second annual Circuit of Tenerife and La Gomera, sponsored by Telefonica Movistar, is about to reach its climax with the September 13 event at Golf Las Americas in Tenerife. The organisers, La Asociacion de Campos de Golf de Tenerife, have been thrilled with the rounds to date, and can’t wait for the first ball to be struck in the final round.
Abama Golf staged the lastest event on August 23, and as usual it was highly competitive. Enrique Pena Mendoza won the mens competition on 41 points with Luisa Fornies Fernandez del Castillo picking up the prize in the higher of the 2 womens categories on 38 points.

All the rounds were played under the stableford format, entrants had to be amateur, over 16 and holding an RFEG (Royal Federation of Spanish Golf) licence. It all started on May 10 at Buenavista Golf (winners group above) in the north west corner of Tenerife. Jose Manuel Hernandez Martin lifted the mens trophy on 38 points, and Maria Jose Rodero Sambeat was the pride of the women on 36 points. The action switched to the ancient El Penon, Royal Golf Club of Tenerife in Tacaronte for June 13 and this time both winners finished on 38 points, Jose Manuel Garcia Diaz and Katja Hintz Tort.
It was all aboard the ferry to La Gomera on June 28, for the round at Tecina Golf. This was a real tough day as the men had to play three rounds, Jose Manuel Hernandez Martin was a winner again, with a combined score of 108 while Guadalope Duran Aguilar triumphed for the ladies on 34 points. On July 12, Amarilla Golf was the venue, this time Santiago Garcia Campos led the way with 38 points and Luisa Fornies Fernandez del Castillo was womens champion.
Anything can happen in these tournaments, that was proved at Golf del Sur on July 26, a three way tie in the mens competition saw Claudio Omar Francioni, Isaac Morena Garcia and Santiago Rivero de la Cruz all rack up 39 points, the ladies contest had a clear winner in Susana Fernandez de Caleta on 39 points. The action was just as good at Golf Costa Adeje on August 9, this time Michael McQuade won with 39 points and Tania Juan Still on 37.

The action just seems to get better so the finale at Golf Las Americas (above) is hotly anticipated and already the talk around the golf courses is about signing on for the 2009 tour as soon as possible.

Ashotel golfers on course for charity
July 16, 2008

When the golf course is as attractive and testing as Golf Las Americas players need little encouragement to take to the greens for a day of top competition. However Ashotel, the hotel and apartment association will have a special incentive on Saturday July 19 as they play to raise funds for AMISUR the Tenerife charity for the handicapped.
This will be the second year of the Ashotel tournament and the action will take place in the stableford individual category. Some 180 players will be gathering from Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro for this worthy cause. After a tough days play, the presentations will be made in the evening at the clubhouse, helped along with cocktails. Funds should be considerably boosted as all players are paying 60 euros to enter the competition, and there will be other fund raising events such as a raffle.
One of the main beneficiaries of the money will be the AMISUR occupational therapy centre in San Miguel, that does such sterling work to make life better for the handicapped of the south. Several high profile local companies have added their backing to the tournament, such as Gomasper, Disa and La Caixa bank.
Las Americas, 5 star hotel, golf and homes
July 2, 2008
It must be the height of summer, the greens have never looked better and the Tenerife golf tournaments just keep coming. This Saturday July 5 Golf Las Americas plays host to the 7th annual Hotel Europe Villa Cortes event. It’s just a short stroll from the five star luxury hotel and spa, on the frontline of this vibrant resort, to the amphitheatre and rolling fairways of this top course.

Around 130 players are expected to take up the challenge of Texas scramble medal play for parteners. There are prizes for the top finishers and a good challenging days play for all, between the lakes and lush vegetation.
The hotel and golf course both undeline the advantages of living in Playa de las Americas, where the beachfront bars, restaurants and nightclubs are backed by a more diverse and sedate area that has direct links to the motorway and the airport, just 20 minutes away. Actual Properties have a selection of luxury properties in the area, including Caldera del Rey, and Mirador del Sur . There is so much in the area to enjoy, and with enough practice on the golf course, you could soon be making a name in all the tournaments.
Binter Canarias Tournament takes off from Amarilla Golf
July 1, 2008

The event takes off on Saturday July 5 at Amarilla Golf ,Tenerife, play for all the rounds will be over 18 holes using the stableford format.

Last year 600 players took part in the inter island summer of golf, and signs are good for this years tournament. The second round takes place on Saturday July 19 at Golf Costa Teguise in Lanzarote, then the action moves to Salinas de Antigua in Fuerteventura on Saturday July 26.
The final round of action takes place on Sunday August 3 at Maspalomas Golf in Gran Canaria. If you have ever wanted to visit some of the other islands, what better excuse is there, than to play some golf.
Tenerife Ladies Open ends in cliff hanger
June 23, 2008

It was left to Rebecca Hudson and Anne-Lise Caudal to show that the Spanish football team didn’t have the monopoly on nail biting finishes on Sunday, as they went to a sudden death play off to decide the outcome of the 2008 Tenerife Ladies Open.
This thrilling finish at Golf Costa Adeje pitted England against France after both players had tied on 278 strokes, 10 under par. It was settled at the 17th hole with a neat putt from Doncasters Rebecca Hudson. There was a tie for third spot as well, with European Number One Gwladys Nocera, and find of the tournament, Spains amateur, Carlota Ciganda both hitting 281strokes during the 4 rounds of play.
What a great end to four days of tough competition, and what a great advert for Tenerife tourism and golf, the event was shown on television across Europe, the sun shone and the Costa Adeje course had never looked better. The standard of play raised the bar a little higher for ladies golf and the Tenerife Open keeps adding to its prestige as one of the key competitions on the European Tour. Roll on next year.
Tenerife tourism experts get mean on the greens
June 17, 2008
They work hard bringing tourists to Tenerife from all over the World, but give them a chance to relax, and they are even more competitive. Tour operators and their agents love to pit themselves against each other on the golf course, and the 9th annual International Golf Challenge will see them battling for personal and professional pride.

The tournament started today and runs through until Saturday at 2 of the islands best courses, Golf Del Sur (above) and Golf Las Americas. This year there are 50 players involved from 11 different countries, not just from the obvious markets like the UK and Germany, but also Finland, Holland and Norway, to name just a few.
It’s a great way to promote golf on the island and is sponsored by Turismo de Tenerife and Tenerife Golf, 2 of the leading government promotion agencies. These tourism experts maybe off duty, but they will be swapping notes and advice and forging strong links that will hopefully help in the battle to increase awareness of golf tourism in Tenerife.
The 2 courses are in the heart of the property investment growth areas and each golf tourist these operators bring in is a potential property buyer. They would no doubt be pleased to know that Actual Properties have villas and apartments in both areas and a browse through their website is a grest starting point in the move to Tenerife to enjoy endless sunshine and golf on a daily basis.
